New writers win Mammoth deals

Company News July 6, 2011

UK drama indie Mammoth Screen will produce two one-hour dramas about family life in Northern Ireland for the BBC.

At Water’s Edge, written by husband and wife Dean and Glynis Hagan, and A Year of Great Love, by Patrick Fitzsymons, will go into production this summer.

The two shows will be broadcast on BBC1 Northern Ireland early next year.

The scripts were commissioned as part of Primetime, an initiative launched last November by BBC Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen that puts into production scripts from home-grown writers.

The scheme gives aspiring Northern Ireland-based writers the chance to have a one-hour drama made for TV.

London-based Mammoth opened offices in the province in 2009 to help work with and develop new talent.

Last month, UK broadcaster ITV1 ordered a sixth season of fictional detective series Lewis, which is executive-produced by Mammoth’s joint MDs Michele Buck and Damien Timmer.
