Mammoth Screen thrilled by the success of Endeavour

Mammoth Screen, the producers of Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour, have been overwhelmed by the response from viewers to the new drama, which aired on ITV1 last night (Sunday 2nd January 2012).

The show achieved the biggest ratings of any new single drama to air on ITV in the last five years and the overnight figure of 6.8 million will grow when consolidated figures are added. The show was well received critically- �This was a quality act, and no surprise, given that the Morse creator Colin Dexter still has his fingers firmly on its pulse… Key was the superlative casting of Shaun Evans as Endeavour.� said Alex Hardy of The Times.� The Guardian’s Sam Wollaston said “Shaun Evans is beguiling in the title role.” It’s been a huge hit on Twitter too, with #Endeavour trending since transmission and much praise for Shaun Evans.

In a joint statement, MICHELE BUCK and DAMIEN TIMMER, Managing Directors of Mammoth, said: �We’re so excited by the fantastic response to Endeavour. Morse is such an iconic brand and we approached it with huge love and respect, but we didn’t know if the audience would accept it. Luckily we had Colin Dexter to advise us, and a brilliant script from Russell Lewis. There was huge pressure on Shaun Evans stepping into the shoes of the young Morse but he�s a real star and we’re so thrilled that the audience have accepted him and Roger Allam as Fred Thursday’.

Mammoth Screen, set up in 2007, was listed in the Sunday Times top 100 fastest growing privately owned companies last month. They recently completed principal photography on the 5 hour BBC/HBO mini series Parade’s End. Monroe series 2 is about to start shooting, and they are in pre-production on Falc�n, a detective series set in Seville for Sky Atlantic.

Mammoth have also recently expanded the team with the announcement of a number of key appointments including James Penny in the newly created role of Commercial Director.
